US-Arizona-Phoenix-Sedona via Jerome and return
|
Region: Arizona. This is a beautiful ride from Phoenix across Mingus Mountain (>7,000 feet) and through Jerome, AZ (a silver mining town) and on to Sedona. This route covers beautiful mountain roads with many 5, 10 and 15 MPH turns as you approach Jerome. Jerome is a great place to stop for lunch. The return from Sedona back to Phoenix is more leisurely as you descend from the mountains to the valley. |

US-NC-Blue Ridge Parkway
|
Region: North Carolina. This route is the full length of the Blue Ridge Parkway. We took 3 days to do this one, getting off the parkway to find hotels at places like Ashville & Ranoeke. Lots of photo opportunities with lookouts and viewpoints all along the length. Plenty of visitor centers, but no accommodation apart from a few camp sites. No commercial traffic allowed and when we were there, the cars were few & far between - but lots of motorcycles of all types. Speed limit of 45 mph & the rangers will enforce it, so it's not a road for racers. It can get a bit chilly at the higher elevations, so take appropriate clothing with you. |

US-NYC_to_DC_ no_toll
US-DC_to_NYC_ no_toll |
Region: New York and Pennsylvania. These are two itineraries from New York City to Washington DC and the return path. These are not scenic routes, but they are very useful to avoid the HUGE tolls you need to pay to travel this route: at least US $20, enough to fill your tank, or enough for the gasoline needed to do the trip). |

Region: Tennessee and North Carolina. This is a route of just over 180 miles (290 km.) in the Tennessee / North Carolina area. The route includes the famous Tail of the Dragon, with its 318 curves in 11 miles. The route also passes through the Indian Town of Cherokee, the very busy Gatlinburg and the town of Pigeon Forge with its Dollywood theme park and more T shirt & tourist shoos than you can shake a stick at. May seem a short route, but there are so many potential stops & photo opportunities that it will take you all day. |

US-Texas-Day 2 - Knights Inn Hot Springs to Stonegate Inn Eureka Springs - Copy US-Texas-Day 3 - Stonegate Inn Eureka Springs to Honobia Creek Store US-Texas-Day 4 - Honobia Creek Store to Home US-Texas-Day 4A - Honobia Creek Store to Home via Cloudy Oklahoma |
Region: Texas. Here is a four day trip from Dallas, TX into Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Back. Days 2 and 3 have lots of waypoints, very much on the back roads. Day 4 is just straight home, assuming exhaustion. Day 2 is derived from "Arkansas Rider's Guide" by Mario Caruso. Much of the route was taken from his excellent book. http://www.arkansasrider.com/ This trip has it all: very technical roads (hundreds of miles of them, in fact), incredible views, lakes near the route, great places to eat or be entertained in Hot Springs and Eureka Springs, and very little boring riding from place to place. Day 1 is pretty long for a sport bike, but manageable at still under 350 miles. Assumes you don't mind straighter roads out of Texas in order to hit the back roads of Oklahoma and Arkansas earlier in the trip Day 2 is the point of the whole trip... pushing to Hot Springs on Day 1 allows all the extra playing around on 123, 7, 16, and 27... EPIC roads. Wow! Note: Get up EARLY or LATE to beat the school bus traffic in all the small towns. This route will wear you out! You need to be in good physical condition to ride it aggressively. If you get fatigued, there are many opportunities to cut straight north on the tamer AR 7. If you have energy to spare at the end of this route, just glance at the roads around Eureka Springs and you'll see there is plenty of additional great riding to be had there. Day 3 is across the top of Mount Magazine, with some of the most staggering views off the side of the mountain available in the entire Southwest United States. Also pushes much further south to make the jog home on Day 4 shorter. Although day 3 ends in the middle of nowhere, there are nice to sleep in in the area: Nicer Option - Honobia Creek Store and Cabins (also the best burgers I have had in 15 years). Call Shawna or Chris Cline: 580-244-3725 Cheaper Option - Rose's Cabins. Call Lavelle or Odell Rose: 580-244-7593 Day 4 is fairly unremarkable, but there are plenty of nice roads around the beginning of the trip to play with if you still have energy left after the first three days. Day 4A goes through Cloudy, Oklahoma, Cloudy Rd, which is about 12 miles of dirt road. The route on the itinerary is manageable on sport bikes or cruisers, but for those with dual purpose bikes the logging roads through the region between Bethel and Battiest are literally one of the best off-road playgrounds in the nation, with hundreds of miles of dirt roads on public land to explore, in various states of disrepair. |

US-Texas-McKinney Airport to Mena, AR
